Family time? Yes, as of this week I now have immediate family that live outside of Knoxville, TN! My parents have fulfilled a lifelong dream and have moved to Pigeon Forge, TN. I grew up camping in the Smokies every year and this is place that is near and dear to my family.<br />
<br />
Pigeon Forge? Isn't that were Dollywood is? Yes, and this guy lives about 5 minutes from my parents house.<br />

But you would never know with where my parents house is. The have moved into the beautiful log cabin with a amazing view of the Great Smoky Mountains.</div>

Once again I am super impressed with Rev3's generosity. This Friday they are hosting a <a href="http://rev3tri.com/knoxville/signup/registration/">Glow 5K</a> with all of the proceeds going to <a href="http://rev3tri.com/2013/04/22/knoxville-glow-5k-to-benefit-former-ut-swimmer-nicole-gross-injured-in-boston/">Nicole Gross</a>, a former UT swimmer (Go Volunteers!) who was injured at Boston. Rev3 was approached to give some of their proceeds from the race to the family and they turned around and said no, we are going to give you <i>all</i> of the proceeds. An amazing group to say the least. If you are in the area or know anyone in the area please come out. Registration closes today but onsite registration is also available.</div>

I have been pretty quiet so far about my experience at the Boston marathon for a couple of reasons. It was pretty hard for me to fully process and am still in the middle of it of doing so. I also needed some time to grieve and soak it all in. And although I got many texts, emails, and messages about friends and family happy I was safe, I had many people ask me "my story" and I began to feel uncomfortable reporting it. For some context I was about two blocks away, but I didn't see or hear the bombs go off and there are far more people who were closer and more affected than I.<br />
<br />
As the week continued on from Monday's events I quickly became frustrated by people wanted to know where I was and what I was doing at the time of the explosions. Yes, they were all glad I was safe, but only 15 minutes in the car after leaving Boston I already had a Michigan news channel calling me for the scoop. Although I participated in the interview this notion of how people wanted to be brought into the drama of the event was one of the harder things I had to wrap my head around. I later found out that a symptom of post-traumatic stress is not wanting to talk about it, but I'm not sure if this directly relates to my frustrations.<br />
<br />
Another concept that took some time for me to understand was how quickly people went to make good out of the tragedy that was unfolding. There was a quote that went viral from Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers) that said, "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." That quote and similar messages were everywhere and although I am extremely "move on" type of person I could not connect with these sentiments immediately. It was too soon for me. All I felt was a huge sense of disappointment. It hurt to be pessimistic, but I can only think of those that were even closer to the center of the events than me that saw the pain, smelt the fear, and heard the cries and I could only imagine they wouldn't want their experience flowered over with good just yet.<br />
<br />
Surprising to me, I had some other minor post-traumatic stress symptoms when I got home. It came in form of an extra sense of paranoia. I would be walking down the street worried at any moment something might happen or hear a siren and pause in thought of tragedy happening all over again. A loud noise and expect the campus to be shut down. With time it has been improving, but I have heard that I will carry that stress for a long time. I am astonished by this since I feel like I was apart of the worst, but I did experience the terror and that was enough I suppose. I wish I would've documented my array of feelings and emotions over the days following the tragedy because it was a wave of up and downs, but I didn't have the energy. I can only believe time will make the feelings of uneasy, anger, and sadness go away.<br />
<br />
In some ways, although strange to say, I appreciate being there. Although I can only begin to conceptualize what it felt like to be a part of September 11th, being in Boston have given me a glimpse into the terror that they went through and that those go through around the world. Although we will overcome and move forward I was moved by a quote from marathon winner <a href="http://www.runnersworld.com/races/amby-burfoot-so-close-yet-so-far">Amby Burfoot</a>, "We can not cover our eyes and ears, and pretend violent acts don’t threaten our great institutions." I ask that when you remember this tragedy and how we overcame, you don't forget those who suffered.<br />
<br />
As for the race, it went as well as it could. I did not have high expectations as my training and motivation had faded in the prior months. Since it was my first Boston I had a mix of ideas on what was going to become in the hills. Some said they were easy, some said they weren't, all I know is I was not prepared for them. The days following the race my quads done. Like rocks. Sharp intense aches and pains that I have never experienced before. Gone. They still are. I have nothing in them. Walking down stairs was not an option. I have never felt so much on my damage before but can't fully determine if it was the hills or my lack of long runs. I think I am going to stick to flat marathons from here on out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6K0RBYsWNvQ/UXsQ_QmrkaI/AAAAAAAABOU/D_VXAgrxDnE/s1600/IMG_1324.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6K0RBYsWNvQ/UXsQ_QmrkaI/AAAAAAAABOU/D_VXAgrxDnE/s640/IMG_1324.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I'm going to use this photo to remember my Boston marathon and all the other photos I have seen over the last weeks will be to remember my experience after the Boston marathon. Run happy.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white; color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I don’t want to introduce you because I feel like everyone should know who you are because you are a badass, but just in case, for those triathletes who might not know your stature, can you describe who you are and what you do?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm Ally Stacher, I'm a professional cyclist with Specialized-Lululemon. I'm a support rider and do I everything I possibly can do to help my team succeed.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #351c75;"><br /></span>
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mjulWIJ0tQw/UWcQimeSQLI/AAAAAAAABNA/Rjk0Vc4t_QU/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mjulWIJ0tQw/UWcQimeSQLI/AAAAAAAABNA/Rjk0Vc4t_QU/s320/photo.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">How old were you when you started cycling and how?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For my senior year in high school we are required to do a senior project. I chose to study endurance sports with an emphasis on cyclist. I went out and bought my first road bike, I did a couple of TT's on it. It was super old school with shifters on the down tube.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I opted for women's wrestling my first year of college and hung my bike up to focus on the mat. I jumped into a couple of random mountain bike races that summer to see how they went. I really just used cycling for cross training.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Being so engrossed and influential in women’s cycling right now, can you talk about a little bit of where it has come, where you think it can go, and what value it adds to both the recreation athlete and the fastest women out there?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Women's cycling has come a long ways since I started racing. There is more depth in the fields. The national team is taking more and more girls over to Europe to give them European race experience and with all the drama going on in the men's sport women's cycling is really growing. I feel women's cycling is going to really take off. We're fun to watch on and off the bike and people like our personalities. The reaction from everyone in the peloton whether it be from the fastest or not there is a positive buzz in the air.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Tell us a little about the team dynamic. All of the ladies seem be smiling and laughing all the time and I would imagine you are all really competitive. By the end of the season when you are all tired, have been living out of a suitcase for months, in close quarters; is there ever any friction?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The team dynamic is one of a kind. Yes we are all extremely competitive. At team camp there was this small plank competition. Everyone was like no no we're not going to do it. But then it came time to start doing planks and everyone was all in. Trixi crushed all of us. Of course there may be some friction here and there, but we're all grown ups and know how to deal with it so it doesn't create a bad atmosphere for everyone.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Can you walk us through a day where you and the team are prepping for that days stage?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Everyone is a little different. What I do: I wake up 3.5hrs before the stage. Eat 3hrs before the stage. Go back to my room, get my bag to the car. Then I either shammy up (if its a close transfer to the start) or I get dressed, gather my race bag and head to the car. On the way to the race I'm snacking. I eat a bar 2hrs before the race and then 1hr before the race. I put my sun screen on, fill my pockets with food for the day. Spin around, sign in with my teammates, sometimes I take some first endurance pre-race then I head to the start line.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Although cycling is kind of a job for you, has it felt like a job yet?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Nope. I love what I do. Some days I have to really dig for motivation to train or race. But all in all I'm grateful for the job and lifestyle that I have.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I know you have a background in wrestling; do you think this unusual background helps your cycling in anyway?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Yes. Wrestling makes you tough. It teaches you how to fight and never give up.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Besides the team being sponsored by Specialized, lululemon’s seems to be really involved; were you a yogi before they got involved?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Yes. I love yoga and pilates. I practice yoga on a very regular basis either in a studio or on my own. I creates a mental and physical balance for me that I need to maintain being a professional cyclist.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My favorite yoga pose is pigeon pose. </span></div>

<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">What is your biggest accomplishment in and outside of cycling?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My biggest accomplishment in cycling was signing with HTC-Highroad in 2011. I was very lucky and honored with the opportunity. Since then I've had the chance to ride for some of the best riders in the world and learn a great deal from them. One of my biggest accomplishments outside of cycling graduating from college. I'm the first college graduate in my family of seven generations.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">

<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">What is your favorite race and why?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My favorite race is Gracia-Orlova. Its a race in the Czech Republic. I love this race, I love the courses and countryside.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">What is the hardest training ride you have ever done?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Mt. Eddy loop. Its a grouling ride, you climb three major climbs that all connect to each other.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">What is the most beautiful training ride you have ever done?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The same as the hardest ride I've ever done. The Mt. Eddy loop. Its almost 10,000ft of climbing in 80miles. Its 3 major climbs that are all back to back.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Is there a dream ride that you really want to get to that you haven’t yet?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I want to ride the whole blue ridge parkway. I'd like to do it this fall.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My workouts really vary. I just really like riding my bike.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: left;">

<div>
About 7 years ago around this time I was thinking that I was never going to do another marathon again. I had just raced my first the previous Fall and as a novice somehow qualified for Boston. Coming off a fall marathon, not letting my body rest properly, taking on a heavy credit load, working full time, and starting an internship all left me a little lethargic. It was around this week in early April 7 years ago that I had finally gone to the doctor and was diagnosed with chronic mono. Although that might not have been exactly accurate via blood work I was also malnourished and iron deficient so to say the least I was tired and I in no shape to run 26.2. To make things worse I had all my travel plans in place and was ready to go. Rather than waste the money spent I went and watched which was probably one of the hardest race experiences I have had. I actually don't remember much of that weekend because I spent 90% of it sleeping. No joke. I have learned endless amounts since that weekend including how important recovery is and in turn I have had several important races be great experiences and huge PRs. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pOSiJunbNRE/UWcMMA_8rtI/AAAAAAAABMw/JzcfG85GGIc/s1600/baa_logo.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pOSiJunbNRE/UWcMMA_8rtI/AAAAAAAABMw/JzcfG85GGIc/s1600/baa_logo.png" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Although I believe I will make it to the start line, I am not confident it will be a huge PR. After reading my <a href="http://www.motiv-8.blogspot.com/">teammate's</a> recent post on <a href="http://www.boston.com/sports/marathon/blog/2013/04/making_lemonades_out_of_lemons.html">Boston.com</a>, "Making Lemonade Out of Lemons." This is just what I needed to keep my spirits high and make it a great experience. I have made it through the hard part and now I am off to enjoy the experience and cross it off my bucket list. Besides battling through my own twinges and tightness I can't really put my finger why my training block has fizzled. My first guess is that it was more important for me to get here rather than to race the race. I didn't really think I would get back here as it hasn't been a priority but thrilled and excited to enjoy all the excitement out there.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
One last hurdle to get over before the race is from last weekend in moving my parents, I came out with one of these.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HDJ28-nuq3E/UWcIVco4a4I/AAAAAAAABMk/oT7msE8pLhY/s1600/IMG_20130411_112849_561.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HDJ28-nuq3E/UWcIVco4a4I/AAAAAAAABMk/oT7msE8pLhY/s400/IMG_20130411_112849_561.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is about the size of a grapefruit. I am not exactly sure how I got this, but I am swinging by the doctor tomorrow morning just to be on the safe side. Yes, it looks like a normal harmless bruise but it actually is somewhat hard and I have never had that happen before. Knowing I have really bad circulation thought it might be a good idea to get it checked out before slamming it into the ground for over 3 hours. I've been slamming Biotta Beet Juice in hopes to flush the bruise out and at the very least I will look tough...or just awkwardly yellow.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7mpL5BUrFtM/UWcMz8E9KXI/AAAAAAAABM4/S9DHYqO-c1k/s1600/IMG_20130411_151850_959.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7mpL5BUrFtM/UWcMz8E9KXI/AAAAAAAABM4/S9DHYqO-c1k/s400/IMG_20130411_151850_959.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Beyond that it is a couple more runs and then we are off! Good luck to all those racing and if you want to track me and channel your strength my bib is 13842 and you should be able to track me at <a href="http://www.baa.org/">www.baa.org</a>.</div>

Disregard the rolled out of bed and ready to run look. I've been struggling with my core so I am doing a 30 day challenge with some local ladies where I am committing to 15 minutes of CORE everyday. That is, timer on.....15 minutes...ding(!) of core. I am hoping this goes well!</div>

I was passed along this gem from a friend with the full story found <a href="http://blog.escapethecity.org/categories/rethink-fear-in-your-career/">here.</a> Although this is career focused this applies to me on a lot of levels recently.<br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">
Don’t fear failure. Don’t fear the unknown.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Follow the fear to see if it leads you to something worth doing.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Do fear boredom.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Fear regret.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And then act on it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Lots of exciting things are coming up and one of those is that my triathlon season is starting off with Rev3 Knoxville. I have made the decision to not race and work at the event! It is two weeks after Boston marathon and although in the beginning of the season I thought I could swing it I now know, in the depth of marathon training, I am going to want every ounce of a break afterwards.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mKRrodD-D4Y/US-uYFBhhXI/AAAAAAAABJU/sR-hKWZUYUM/s1600/header-banner-knox.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="244" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mKRrodD-D4Y/US-uYFBhhXI/AAAAAAAABJU/sR-hKWZUYUM/s640/header-banner-knox.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Despite not racing this event is going to be epic! I have some pretty big news to go along with this, but I can't share quite yet. I LOVE SECRETS! Keep an eye out! All I know is I will be back for many years to come, including next year, for the inaugural Rev3 Championship Race which will be the Knoxville Half. Find more information <a href="http://rev3tri.com/knoxville/age-groupers/age-group-series/">HERE</a>. Oh, you have a question about the series you say? Find the <a href="http://rev3tri.com/knoxville/age-groupers/faq/">FAQ</a> here.<br />
<br />
Anyone interested in joining me to preview the course this year? </div>

Now that January has come and gone and whelp, February is almost through I thought it would be a good idea to think about my resolutions. I don't like to think of them as resolutions but more as reminders. I don't intend to resolve or change anything, but I want to remind myself and improve on the things I already do.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0533MqxG2R0/USPc-6oA8AI/AAAAAAAABHc/SUKZLAKDZJk/s1600/IMG_20130219_132636_828.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0533MqxG2R0/USPc-6oA8AI/AAAAAAAABHc/SUKZLAKDZJk/s640/IMG_20130219_132636_828.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
Track it - I have recently updated my training log and I would like to spend more time tracking my workouts than it did to create it this year. I have got this cool dashboard that will allow me to see what is going on at a glance. As you can see, I am not doing so well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yAjiKOaMad4/USPbShb6gYI/AAAAAAAABHE/ejYhw6VLlXo/s1600/Log.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="355" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yAjiKOaMad4/USPbShb6gYI/AAAAAAAABHE/ejYhw6VLlXo/s640/Log.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Eat better, eat smart - Coming back from Colorado and the Rev3 Summit I was ready for a detox. I also was amazed at how healthy my team is. My constant focus is less processed and more fruits. I am a vegetable addict so I am really trying to incorporate more fruit. Less sugar and less grain is also a goal, but don't think cutting it completely is something I want to do right now. I started using myfitnesspal.com to keep me honest. Now I just need to enter it in!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YUd1xZL-xtE/USPb5owFnNI/AAAAAAAABHM/kVPUWfaULPI/s1600/myfitnesspal.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="568" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YUd1xZL-xtE/USPb5owFnNI/AAAAAAAABHM/kVPUWfaULPI/s640/myfitnesspal.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Core, strength, flexibility - I just signed myself up for a month unlimited at the Plymouth Yoga Room. Last year I really noticed how beneficial my strength work was. I am hoping this month of yoga will make it a habit and not only help with strength, but improve my flexibility and core. The more I do yoga I find the more at peace I am and focused on my body.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UC6JYaBRhjU/USPhwltjZYI/AAAAAAAABIE/7S7dF0gBRqM/s1600/IMG_20130211_221318_116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UC6JYaBRhjU/USPhwltjZYI/AAAAAAAABIE/7S7dF0gBRqM/s640/IMG_20130211_221318_116.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
Recovery - My legs are getting a lot of abuse as I train for Boston so focusing on recovery has been top priority. Using my <a href="http://www.normatecrecovery.com/">NormaTec</a> boots, trying out my new <a href="http://www.compex.info/en_EU/index.html">Compex</a> system, wearing some compression socks, and living on my foam roller. I am really focusing on taking the time to use all options to keep me feeling fresh.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-De92Vs8v7dA/USPc6syRPoI/AAAAAAAABHU/-WNCp1TVzB8/s1600/IMG_20130206_220546_063.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-De92Vs8v7dA/USPc6syRPoI/AAAAAAAABHU/-WNCp1TVzB8/s640/IMG_20130206_220546_063.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Stop - And smell the roses. Lately my mind has felt like the colorful scribble below. I am really trying to take the time to breath and relax. Stress in and out of my training effects my body drastically. I am constantly reminding myself to take some time before I fall asleep or before I get out of bed in the morning to focus.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4LYS5nUOVgU/USPmQFbAbrI/AAAAAAAABIs/-Fh9CVrOQpc/s1600/394846_10151330261004280_197694442_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4LYS5nUOVgU/USPmQFbAbrI/AAAAAAAABIs/-Fh9CVrOQpc/s320/394846_10151330261004280_197694442_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Are you still working at your resolutions? Have they stuck? Any tips of keeping at it?</div>

What a weekend! I ended my last post with a picture of a pretty sweet tattoo which belongs to this guy.<br />

<a href="http://fatman2ironman.com/">Ron</a>, aka, Zach Galifianakis, aka Alan from The Hangover flew in to Boulder at the same time on Friday AM so he kindly offered to give me a ride. Although I never had met him before and I easily could be dead/kidnapped/mangled right now but he was the nicest, friendliest most lovable person you could imagine. Ron has quite the story. At the age of 32 and 322 lbs he chose to make the change and entered into this crazy triathlon community. He is now down in the 220 range and taking names! He is just one of the inspirational and amazing people that have joined the team this year. You will hear about many more in the upcoming year but feel free to explore my blog list for more info on the teammies.</div>

Over the course of the weekend we had the chance to learn more about our sponsors and ask them anything! We heard from <a href="http://www.sbrsportsinc.com/">SBR Sports</a>, <a href="http://www.rooworld.com/">Quintana Roo</a>, <a href="http://www.powerbar.com/">PowerBar</a> and <a href="http://www.reynoldscycling.com/">Reynolds</a>, as well as our new sponsors, <a href="http://shopcompex.com/">Compex</a> and <a href="http://biottajuices.com/">Biotta Juice</a>. I am so excited about all of these and a great year ahead!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
We also got to go to <a href="http://www.pearlizumi.com/">Pearl Izumi</a> headquarters, tour the building, see the new shoe and apparel lines, hear from Tim DeBoom, and bombard them with questions. Pearl is an awesome company. I don't need to say anything else as their products speak it for themselves, but I am so happy to represent them.</div>

On Sunday, a group of us took to the slopes! How could we not? We went to Winter Park and although the conditions were not 100% in CO, there were awesome compared to MI. Mainly, I think it was the company, but I have never laughed so hard boarding before.<br />

Stunned and still seeing stars with the month already being over. It has been a whirlwind. I feel like a spent the first two weeks being sick and recovering from the holidays and contemplating a race/training plan (which is still yet to be finalized). Since I was sick I didn't get the start to the season I wanted. It is go time, but I have been having some nagging calf issues and started massage back up. I plan to attack the body with rolling, massage, and stretching to get it back to performance ready. <div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;">I also went to allergy testing to get tested for various bee allergies. I am allergic to wasp, yellow jacket, white faced hornet, and two others, but not the honey bee. I need to decide if I want to do the "allergy shots" to make me immune to the venom. I need to commit to getting a shot once a week for about 8 months and then once a month for a couple years. Does anyone have experience with this? It seems like a lot of time, but I am always outside and don't really want to have to worry about it since my </span><a href="http://www.bogenation.blogspot.com/2012/08/on-move.html" style="text-align: left;">experience last summer</a><span style="text-align: left;"> happened so fast.</span></div>

I got some great snowboarding in this year already with a trip up north and an awesome surprise. I am so excited and happy to announce I got engaged to my best friend and handsome boo. I am overjoyed and beyond excited for the rest of our lives and all the adventures that come along with it. The date and location is still up in the air (IT HAS BEEN A WEEK AND 1/2 PEOPLE!). We of course will need to be arranging this around race schedules, but hopefully figuring it out soon. I have already had someone ask me if I got my dress yet.</div>

I ended the month with this last weekend in Colorado where I attended the Rev3 Team Summit. There are some amazing things and people coming out of this company, but I will leave that to the next post. :)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Where have I been?! I would love to say I have been doing all these exciting things and being adventurous. I feel like I have mostly been working on my 2013 training log. I have been updating an online excel sheet so I can access it anywhere and creating graphs and chart galore!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To back it up...post last season I made a conscious effort to not workout. It was really easy at first. It started to get hard when people started asking me about it. "Have you worked out since your race?" they asked. Everyone around me seemed to be gearing up for 2013 with early races and heavy training and I had just finished my 2012. I <i>almost</i> started to feel like I should be doing something. But I was quick to remind myself, while sweating out those long trainer sessions, I had promised myself this time away. I timed it well though so I was able to fill all that extra time with holidays and travels and have no post-Ironman blues.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First on the list cookies and mani/pedis. You know I ate cookies through my entire training, but during my "off" offseason I didn't limit myself.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I enjoyed all of what the holidays had to offer. Including pie by the fire.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I got to go to my first Packer game and not have to worry about fitting in a workout.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Fz_3c2Sm7Io/UPQqxVyVtJI/AAAAAAAAA-4/JMS26bQcfnU/s1600/2012-12-23_12-36-04_947.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Fz_3c2Sm7Io/UPQqxVyVtJI/AAAAAAAAA-4/JMS26bQcfnU/s320/2012-12-23_12-36-04_947.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also picked up a new habit. Juicing. I am really excited to carry this into the 2013 season.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

With my 2013 training log being revamped I also have decided on a tentative 2013 race schedule and excited to be getting back in the saddle. Check out the new tab "2013 Schedule" tab.</div>

Wow...what a race. Back in <a href="http://www.bogenation.blogspot.com/2012/01/105959.html">January</a> I set the bar to break 11 hours. Mostly I wanted a better way that I could hold myself accountable in my training and focus so I put it out there where the world could see. When the day got close all I wanted was a smart race. Although I didn't break 11 hours I couldn't be more pleased with my race. Over 140.6 miles and to be that close, I know I did what I needed to do over these couple of months.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kK9Z9NPBmq4/ULkSfTbrSeI/AAAAAAAAA38/BHglb_2xLLw/s1600/602335_10102732493517904_626343099_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kK9Z9NPBmq4/ULkSfTbrSeI/AAAAAAAAA38/BHglb_2xLLw/s320/602335_10102732493517904_626343099_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
As it came closer to the race things started to unravel a tiny bit with the sleeping, sickness, and trying to pack while still managing my taper, work, life, etc. I kept it together as best as I could and kept reminding myself that it was already in the bank. 2 years ago I was at the race working it which turned out to be awesome because I knew my way around pretty well and knew the course somewhat all helping calm the nerves.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ffW1GbRIEDk/ULkUHwW_r2I/AAAAAAAAA4M/WA2y66zBPsY/s1600/600052_10102736182984184_1616916607_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ffW1GbRIEDk/ULkUHwW_r2I/AAAAAAAAA4M/WA2y66zBPsY/s320/600052_10102736182984184_1616916607_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Getting right into it...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-60PU9H1yjk4/ULkUEVD4rAI/AAAAAAAAA4E/Cfa8H4m7ZYo/s1600/224075_10102752115051194_78981037_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-60PU9H1yjk4/ULkUEVD4rAI/AAAAAAAAA4E/Cfa8H4m7ZYo/s320/224075_10102752115051194_78981037_n.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Swim: Damn crap coldness! I knew it is common for the swim to be cold here, but I didn't worry about it too much. I should of psyched myself up for it a little bit because I was really surprised when I got in at the warm up swim. I am not one for long sleeve wetsuits; my swimmer shoulders no likey, but that was not what caused me problems during the race. During the swim it kept feeling like I had something stuck to a couple of my toes. Out of the water I figured it out real quick. My feet were legitimately numb. Let just say T1 was solely focused on where I was stepping because I could not feel my feet.<br />
<br />
My goal split for the swim was at the very least see 59:59 on the clock. I have been so very close the previous two times: Lake Placid: 1:00:19 and Wisconsin: 1:03:34. Welp I knew when I saw 32 minutes on my watch at about half way I was in some trouble. I picked it up but still fell short: Arizona: 1:00:46. Next time around I will try and get some more focused open water swims in before hand because I was just floppin around on that first half and wondering how there was still such a big group infront of me. That's because I was screwing around and not hauling. I came out 124 out of everyone though so it is what it is. I will break you 1 hour some day!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gMGCtRZ7k9s/ULkUL_dz_VI/AAAAAAAAA4U/d1U_UyVAGxc/s1600/63807_10100694448032463_511802718_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gMGCtRZ7k9s/ULkUL_dz_VI/AAAAAAAAA4U/d1U_UyVAGxc/s320/63807_10100694448032463_511802718_n.jpg" width="262" /></a></div>
t1: Left my watch on "by accident" so it could stare at me the whole bike ride. Tried to warm up best I could and I was off as fast as my cold stumps could move me.<br />
<br />
Bike: What I thought was going to be my weakest link of the weekend turned out to be my strongest. That is what this distance will do to you. Play games! I had a 55 minute PR. My goal split was 5:44:59 and I was almost 5 minutes under so I was happy. Well, more like I am happy now. At the moment I was just focusing on getting through the next 26.2. I really wanted to have a smart race and getting my nutrition down on the bike was key. I would say I hit my goal pretty well here, but as a true athlete I always see the room for improvement. I don't think I should be faster here, I just wish I would of eaten more on the last loop. I was shoveling it in thinking I had enough but it really took some time for it to kick in on my run which costed me some time I didn't want to give away and makes me think I could of taken more.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SdXyHwOUCrU/ULkUQpnSVCI/AAAAAAAAA4c/agvnKIGKIIA/s1600/558989_10100694448222083_1738932380_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SdXyHwOUCrU/ULkUQpnSVCI/AAAAAAAAA4c/agvnKIGKIIA/s320/558989_10100694448222083_1738932380_n.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
t2: I actually don't remember this at all except that I had to stop in to the ladies room twice. The first time to pee and the second time to take care of some lady business. I would love to see a dude try and do an Ironman when that mother nature lady from the Kotex commercial shows up.<br />
<br />
Run: Per usual I started out too fast and had to get down to what felt like about a walk/small shuffle to hit the right pace. I have never really had a good Ironman marathon and knew to survive I needed to eat. I got some water and coke at the first aid station and eased into it as much as I could. By mile 2 I already knew I needed more fuel so I started taking in Gel and salt. It held on well for the first lap although the second half I just never felt like my nutrition kicked in. This picture must be right out of t2 because no chance my form looked that good on lap 2.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r7bjF9nCYNY/ULkWixU73-I/AAAAAAAAA4k/4vD6Y6AccCY/s1600/59622_10102752118050184_485522059_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r7bjF9nCYNY/ULkWixU73-I/AAAAAAAAA4k/4vD6Y6AccCY/s320/59622_10102752118050184_485522059_n.jpg" width="192" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is more likely lap 2.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jXxmKVoN8wU/ULkWkSIIYhI/AAAAAAAAA4s/O7ujZqG9oOE/s1600/599842_10102752118304674_725330384_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jXxmKVoN8wU/ULkWkSIIYhI/AAAAAAAAA4s/O7ujZqG9oOE/s320/599842_10102752118304674_725330384_n.jpg" width="206" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;">Although I was consistently eating and drinking coke at every aid station and walking through them to get every ounce of nutrition it just didn't seem to hold on through the middle. When I hit 13.1 I was walking, but for some reason I knew it wasn't over. I wasn't going to give up like the last two times. I kept telling myself the more I run the sooner I will be done. Silly motivation, but it wasn't that I wanted to be done because I wanted it over this time; I wanted to be done, because I wanted to have done it right. I kept at it eating and drinking and salting and it finally came around. I saw my good buddy, <a href="http://networkedblogs.com/F0Gal">Inch</a>, around mile 20 who had ran/dragged me in at Wisconsin. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Cu6Bs3-XZ7c/UL6cDHT3aWI/AAAAAAAAA50/J5d_TiiWLI4/s1600/543069_10102752118554174_1044043364_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Cu6Bs3-XZ7c/UL6cDHT3aWI/AAAAAAAAA50/J5d_TiiWLI4/s320/543069_10102752118554174_1044043364_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;">He could tell I was feeling better and straight up told me it was now or never to take a chance. To go for it! What could I lose? From somewhere I got a second wind and picked up the pace. It felt amazing to be moving along and I just fed off of all the people that I was flying by. I got some great comments. It made me feel so much faster than I really was going, but when you have 6 miles left what you feel is all that matters. I kept seeing Inch along the way to move me along so it was great motivation and all I had to do was run it in. One of the last aid stations started playing the Rev3 Team's anthem and I loved it. I was flooded by all the support I had received from the staff and team throughout the year.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/wyx6JDQCslE?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was focused on taking more time and enjoying the finishing shoot, as I don't remember the last two, but I was moving so fast it was over in a pinch. I ended up having a 50 minute PR on my IM marathon split with almost a 2 hour overall PR. I couldn't be happier and finally felt like I have put in a good quality smart race. Throughout the race I got a ton of Rev3 shout outs which I loved. It was the best motivation out there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Super special thank you to my boo, who provided endless support leading up to the race and was the best sherpa anyone can have! Huge thank you to my coach, <a href="http://poohbeartri.blogspot.com/">JP</a>, who led me through what can sometimes be an endless tunnel of doom. Big thank you to those who were out there supporting me on the course and cheering me on at home. I was great to know my friends were thinking of me and provided such a great boost in those rough spots. I could of never have pulled this off without all of them. I was extra thankful this Thanksgiving!</div>

I am enjoying the off season, but already busy with remolding the kitchen and the holidays! Thinking about running soon if I can fit it in, but in no rush. Pictures to come of the progress!</div>

My nutrition has been a little bit of a struggle for me this year. This is clear as it has taken me awhile to finalize this. I started this post on 8/29/12 so I could develop it over the course of my training and have it dialed in exactly to the best nutrition plan possible. I was having a hard time find stuff that was appetizing to me while training. I am the opposite of someone with a sweet tooth. I love savory foods so finding something to eat in the world of sweet gels and sugary bars was hard.<br /><br /> Breakfast: 800-1000 Calories from moderate to low glycemic index foods 3 to 4 hours prior <br />Oatmeal w/ milk, brown sugar, butter (1 cup dry =300 Calories); 2x Banana (200 Calories); Powerbar Ironman Perform (70); English muffin w/ PB and Honey (260 calories).<br /><br /> Pre-Race: 200 Calories/hour in the last 3 hours, Liquids<br />Powerbar Harvest Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Bar (250 Calories), Water<br /><br />Swim: Nothing<br /><br />Bike: 350 calories per hour on the bike. Drink water before starting any calories. Beginning to sip right away out of T1 and continue for 20 minutes. Every hour on the bike I plan to eat: 1/2 banana (50 calories), 1/2 powerbar (115 calories) Powerbar Energy Blasts (190 calories). And a salt tab every other hour. Every hour on the bike I plan to drink: 20 oz of water (Shiv bladder) and 15 oz of Gatorade (half my aero drink). Chase each mouthful of solid with 2 to 3 mouthfuls of water.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Run: Get in at least 200 Calories per hour. Every hour on the run I plan to eat: 1/2 banana (50 calories), 1 Gel (110 calories), and get the remaining calories from coke. Every hour on the run I plan to drink: 10 oz water and 10 oz coke. When using gels, follow with water. I may or may not mix in some oranges and pretzels depending on how I feel. I also play to take a salt tab every other hour.<div>

Although the major task is still at hand I can't but help myself and think about what I am going to do when I have that extra time on my hands.<br />
<br />
-Getting pretty. I need a haircut and eyebrow wax bad!<br />
-Not having to think about hitting my workouts. Just getting out there and enjoying the feel.<br />
-Lots of cross training. I love to do it but seem to never have time for it when the mileage ramps up.<br />
-Housework. Crazy I know, but we are currently renovating our kitchen and I want to be able to put some hard work and focus on it. I also want to catch up on cleaning.<br />
-Reading<br />
-Sleeping In<br />
-Watching movies<br />
-Catching up with friends.<br />
-Taking walks; hopefully before it snows.<br />
<br />
It seems like everyone else is really enjoying the time off. For me it is right around the corner!</div>

11 days to go! For my "B" race this year I mapped everything out ahead of time down to every last detail I could control. This helped me significantly by staying focused on what I have focused so much on already and not getting caught up in all the shiny things at the expo. Yes it is a little over the edge for most, but it is what works for me. I am not going to toss in the towel or cry myself to sleep if everything doesn't go as planned. I like to think of it as an outline. Feel free to comment if I blatantly forgot anything or recommendations on can't miss places in the Tempe area.<br />

19 days to go until my big race and of course I get sick! I spent the weekend freaking out a little bit since I was off in my workouts followed by a couple rest days. I am pretty sure my body does not respond like the average person and maybe even to the average athlete. Every day I am taking a boat load of vitamins to avoid getting sick so when I am sick it doesn't necessarily appear as the common cold. I had a sore throat but I just get exhausted and feel it in my muscles more than anything. I believe that I am on the up swing with being back on the bike and back in the pool, but since I only have 19 days left until my "A" race I am going to do everything possible to get myself in optimal health. Not just back to okay health, I am talking optimal.<br />
<br />
1. Eating! Lots of smoothies and lemons! I intend to surge with vegetables and fruits in my diet.<br />
<br />
2. Sleep. I have been having trouble sleeping the last week and a half and am starting to think it is what started the whole thing. I don't know what happened. I was knocking out workouts and then was knocked out at bed time, but lately I have been restless and distracted. I am going to give melatonin a try. I have tried it before it half pills and it seemed to do the job so I won't be introducing anything new into my system completely but this will help me get some good solid sleep.<br />
<br />
3. Stretching and Rolling. This is not so focused on the sickness at hand, but I said optimal health and I want to be loose as a goose come race day.<br />
<br />
4. Stress. Work has been a downer lately so I am going to make sure I check the negativity coming in and going out the door.<br />
<br />
All of these are probably things I should of prioritized throughout the season, but when you are putting in large training blocks it becomes close to impossible. Still no reason not to make a late season push. Any other recommendations on how to recoup from getting sick in the midst of your season are appreciated.<br />
<br />

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
This weekend, last weekend and the weekend before various triathlons around the world took places of different distances, sizes, and capacities. I was scheduled to race at the Ullman/Rev3 Half Full triathlon in Columbia, Maryland on October 7th. Unfortunately, due to some last minute engagements and weddings I was not able to attend and was truly disappointed. If you know me, you know I would usually have skipped the weddings for such a great race and cause but these were of close friends and I don't have many of those.<br />
<br />
Reason #5: Lance. He is a legend no matter how you look at it. No matter how many bad things I hear about him he still associates himself with a good cause and that I give him credit. People can argue he does it for the wrong reasons and its all about self interest, but no matter how you cut it, he still has given light to an important cause. If you have seen anyone wither away from cancer you will understand this.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kw4DDGNjkTs/UH3I6-0SezI/AAAAAAAAA18/iwvOx7JFDps/s1600/178661_4498241890428_1717828979_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kw4DDGNjkTs/UH3I6-0SezI/AAAAAAAAA18/iwvOx7JFDps/s320/178661_4498241890428_1717828979_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Rev3, Charlie, making Lance suffer, in jeans and a hoodie.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Reason #4: I really wanted one of these guys! I love crab. Pretty much what it comes down to.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://ow.ly/i/ZOXX" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" target="_blank"><img alt="Owly Images" height="298" src="http://static.ow.ly/photos/normal/ZOXX.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Rev3 has the coolest medals!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Reason #3: This is my old stomping ground. I used to live in the area and would ride this course on a weekly basis. If you want to be a stronger biker this is the course to ride. It is technical and hilly. It is also absolutely gorgeous.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qe5NyAwoaI8/UH3H_ahNZ6I/AAAAAAAAA10/Kbmr2XaERzE/s1600/map.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="262" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qe5NyAwoaI8/UH3H_ahNZ6I/AAAAAAAAA10/Kbmr2XaERzE/s400/map.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Best riding in eastern Maryland.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Reason #2: My Rev3 teammates and the Rev3 staff. I really was disappointed I didn't get to hang out with the Rev3 team. From what I hear it was a fun and epic weekend as always.</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ywcDKo4RYbo/UH3JOVLmVmI/AAAAAAAAA2E/87Zrmso021g/s1600/299390_4830677371575_986102543_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ywcDKo4RYbo/UH3JOVLmVmI/AAAAAAAAA2E/87Zrmso021g/s320/299390_4830677371575_986102543_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Rev3 team rallying the night before the race.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Reason #1: The cause. "Its about doing something that's bigger than you, its about taking your life back, its about being involved, its about being healthy."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" frameborder="0" height="281" mozallowfullscreen="mozallowfullscreen" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/50963563?title=1&byline=0&portrait=1" webkitallowfullscreen="webkitallowfullscreen" width="500"></iframe> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I will be at this race next year whether it is to race or help out. I highly recommend adding it to your race calendar for next year and can guarantee you it will not disappoint. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After Rev3 Cedar Point a vacation was needed. My man and I decided to go on an adventure instead. We traveled to northern Minnesota to enter into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in hopes of some northern lights and relaxation time. We got the relaxation time, but didn't see any northern lights. Maybe next time! Here is our adventure in pictures.</div>

I didn't realize it had been so long since I posted. September is flying by! I have a small excuse for the delay as I was in the middle of nowhere two weeks ago! A separate post to follow on my adventure into the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota.<br />
<br />
The Cedar Point Half was a great experience and had so much fun. Leading up life was a little hectic because I was trying to get ahead at work and pack for a week vacation that was starting the day after. Despite packing a little light I had the essentials but I only packed one change of clothes! My head was not necessarily in it.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Roller coasters in the back drop. Woot woot!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Having never been to Cedar Point I was on stimulation overload rolling into town. Meeting all the teammates, checking inn, and arriving at our pad, aka, Margaritaville, I was ready to go. At least I thought I was. I seem to have most of my failures right after my peaks. I get cocky and lazy and this was exactly the result at Cedar Point. Coming off an overall placing at Dells and some solid training blocks with a combination of that busy last week I didn't take the time to think and focus on this race. I was cruising on a jet ski when I should of been thinking through the race.<br />

Swim (29:51; 3/252 Female; 14/715 Overall)<br />
The swim was a little choppy and kind of hard to sight. I need new tinted goggles because the ones I have are filled with 5 years of gunk. I have used some epic <a href="http://www.sbrsportsinc.com/foggle_products.htm">Foggle</a> on all my goggles, and it has worked great, but these are past the point of no return. Control what you can! I wasn't really stoked about the time, but I recently realized I had the 3rd fastest female time and the 15th fastest overall time. Not too shabby.<br />

T1: 2:29 Need to work on this...bad! What was I doing? I need a system or a mental checklist to speed through because I remember being like okay, what do I still need?<br />
<br />
Bike (8/252; 100/715)<br />
The first part of this course is awesome. You ride right along the water with gorgeous houses and epic views. Rev3 also did an awesome job of keeping us spaced out. I felt great heading out and consciously held back a little but it was hard as I had one girl in my age group leech on. I hate cheaters. Miles 10-40 felt great and was chugging along. Getting food in, just not the right stuff. With about 10-15 miles to go I felt like I wasn't moving as fast as I ought to for the effort I was putting out. I was fading to later determine it was mainly caused by my nutrition.<br />
<br />
T2: 2:23 Needed to put on socks. Still too slow.<br />
<br />
Run (17/252; 152/715)<br />
This may of been the worst I have ever felt on a run. I was up and down with pace and energy. I failed in my nutrition and the result was feeling like I would be going straight to the med tent after finishing. Starting out I felt decent. I again tried to hold back and was aiming to be hydrated enough that I would need to use the bathroom right away. Right on schedule I needed to at mile 1, but there was a line so I made it to mile 2. By mile 2 I was feeling like this was going to be a long walk in. Heading out I took a big cup of coke, a big cup of water, and a cup of ice to-go. The next few miles were coke, water, ice, repeat. Walking the aid stations and surviving to the next. Around mile 4 or 5 I got busted. I had yet to meet Charlie, owner of Rev 3. I was thoroughly convinced that I was one of Charlie's angels. He had caught me on the run walking at an aid station. "No walking allowed in that jersey!" He was right on and helped light the fire. It hurt to move but was just what I needed to hear. Wearing the Rev3 jersey gives me super powers...I just needed a little reminder. I shook hands with Charlie and shuffled on. To my surprise Charlie was right there at the next mile. Just what I needed though. Thinking back, I realized there is always another level to go to and another push. For the next couple of miles I had Charlie there to push me. Looking at my Garmin data I went from a 9:27 mile at mile 6 down to a 8:18 mile at mile 9. I know at one point I looked at my Garmin and was running 7:30 pace. That is basically my 10K pace. All slow and above the goal pace, but considering how I felt for the brief moment I was cooking! By no surprise, since all I was taking was coke and water, things went spiraling downhill quick. Mine 9:42 mile for mile 13 felt like 11:00 minute pace. I really thought I was going to black out at one point.<br />
<br />
Lesson of the day: nutrition is everything.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The venue and course was amazing. The majority of Wisconsin has gorgeous views and smooth roads mixed with a lot of rolling hills. Both the bike and run course were challenging, but perfect in every possible way. You couldn't of asked for better racing weather either; nice temperatures with overcast skies. My expectations were pretty low going into the race. I hadn't raced a triathlon since September of 2010 and hadn't raced an Olympic distance triathlon since June 2010. I also was going into the race with a big week behind me and a lack of sleep and any relaxation time. It was kind of nice knowing there was no pressure, but I was a little nervous about being quick and/or forgetting something in transition. </div>

Swim (21:54; 2/64 Female; 6/170 Overall): The swim felt way better than I thought it was going to. It was my first time trial start where they let two people go at a time. Very spectator friendly with huge grand stands to watch everyone go off. I started pretty much last in the wave and of the entire race which was awesome because I love catching people and working my way up. Sighting was pretty easy and I didn't run into anyone super aggressive. My main challenge for the swim is pushing it for the whole way and staying focused. I really need to take advantage of the swim since it is my strength. I was cruising along and passing green caps and even caught some blue collegiate caps from the first wave, but I was still shocked when someone told me I was the first green cap out of the water. I think I actually turned out to be second but still stellar. I was not really impressed with my time though. Always room for improvement!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
T1 (1:24): I was pretty nervous about these and thinking the thickest of the cobwebs would be here. There were. I forgot my nutrition here. Good thing it was short. This was also the first time jumping on my stead with shoes connect to the pedals. It worked for the most part but struggled a little with breaking the rubber band.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Bike (1:14:24; 2/64 Female; 23/170 Overall): The bike was interesting. I am still working on dialing in my fit so I had that nagging pain on the inside of my left shoulder, but also to my surprise my right quad was spazzing. Not really cramping but ceasing up. That lasted for about half the bike, but once that stopped I was cruising along and kept a decent attitude. I passed the girl who came out of the water in front of me, but got passed by speed demon, <a href="http://holyspokes.wordpress.com/">Maggie</a>. I tried to hang, but couldn't. This was incredibly frustrating. Need more power! I have already put in some epic strength building bike sessions to fix this and will continue until November!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
T2 (2:39): I don't understand how this is always slower than T1. I need work on this.</div>
<br />
Run (47:08, 3/64 Female; 22/170 Overall): Whoa. I have no idea where my legs came from on this one. I really hadn't put in a solid run of more than 5 miles since my marathon so I wasn't sure what was going to happen here. I came out the gate hot and surprisingly stayed hot with the two large climbs. Slowed down a little in the last mile or so but I am going to blame that on me needing to pee. I was hoping to hold my position and had dreams of moving up. That did not happen. I got passed and couldn't go with the girl, but considering what I expected from my legs I was happy to be moving.<br />

Overall the race was great to see what exactly needs work and get a good idea on how I was feeling. A podium doesn't hurt. I was proud to be a part of Rev3 as Maggie and I went 1-3 in the Olympic while <a href="http://alyssagodesky.com/">Alyssa</a> and <a href="http://taramartine.blogspot.com/">Tara</a> went 2-3 in the Half. I have a lot more work to do, but this race made me even more excited for it. Next up is Rev3 Cedar Point and its coming up quick!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What a weekend! It took me until Wednesday to take my tattoos off and actually get back into the swing of things. I think it was a combination of some <a href="http://www.cdifferentwithaaron.com/">Aaron Scheidies</a> and <a href="http://poohbeartri.blogspot.com/">John Paul Severin</a> craziness, the excitement of my first Rev3 race (Yes, first and primarily why this post is in two parts.) some post Wisconsin State Fair cream puff haze, and the long exhausting drive, but I was drained when I got home at 11:30 PM Sunday night. It took me a little bit longer than I expected to have the energy levels back up and get my life together, but with taking Wednesday off of work I got some extra hours of solid sleep and am back at it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last Friday late afternoon I rolled out of work and started my lonely drive to WI. I made it just in time to meet my wonderful, awesome, fantastic parents at an exit off the highway who brought me delicious cream puffs from the State Fair. With a quick bite to eat and some never ending hugs from my mother I was off to the Madison airport. Once Aaron and John were in the car it was another 45 minutes to my Aunt and Uncle's. Full of energy and trying to keep quiet we snuck into their house at around 1:30 AM. A quick late night snack of the cream puffs and then it was off to bed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cCLrhnH2SSg/UC5OJgRcElI/AAAAAAAAAo8/ggWi7EgzaUE/s1600/251510_2265589924209_2813661_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cCLrhnH2SSg/UC5OJgRcElI/AAAAAAAAAo8/ggWi7EgzaUE/s320/251510_2265589924209_2813661_n.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Wake Up! 8:00 AM. Fueled up with some homemade yummy raspberry muffins and lots of coffee. Aaron and John consume coffee like its water and I should have taken this as a warning of the day to come. Rolling up to the expo gave me butterflies! Balloon arches, vendors galore, and awesome staff!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Xq2l3gku3N0/UCq6npF-Y3I/AAAAAAAAAnY/kJoIGLlQs6g/s1600/2012-08-11_10-52-15_308.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Xq2l3gku3N0/UCq6npF-Y3I/AAAAAAAAAnY/kJoIGLlQs6g/s320/2012-08-11_10-52-15_308.jpg" width="179" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was amazed and floored at what kind of service I got. We rolled up pretty early to the expo and I don't think it had officially opened yet, but they were set up and ready to go. Everyone was soooo friendly and happy to be there and actually knew what they were doing. John and Aaron made the rounds with some of their fellow Evotri team members which actually have some close ties to Rev3 and I think we might need to start up a new rivalry. :) I introduced myself to as many as I somewhat recognized as this was the first time meeting anyone from the team and staff in person. If they had a Rev3 staff shirt on or was wearing a Rev3 kit I was saying what's up! This included me walking up to <a href="http://malaikahomo.blogspot.com/">Malaika Homo</a> and not realizing it until we exchanged names. I played it off well, but damn that women looks so young and is in such good shape I barely recognized her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Over at Tommy Bartlett's where transition was set up we got in a quick practice swim. The water was the perfect temperature and amazingly clean. I actually felt real good in the water compared to what I have been feeling like in the pool that past week so it was a happy surprise. After meeting some more 'mates and talking with the amazing Rev3 Race Director, Eric Opdyke, it was time to get our bikes ready for check in. Once checked in it was time to get down to business. This was also Aaron's first race with Rev3 and they got some great taste of both him and his guide, John Paul's personalities and friendship. Aaron does any amazing job of letting his attitude and personality define him, rather than his limitations. Watch the video below and find more about Aaron at <a href="http://www.cdifferentwithaaron.com/">www.cdifferentwithaaron.com</a>.</div>

Again, I was floored by the service Rev3 provides when we received ART, massage, and NormaTec Recovery Boot time! All free and within in minutes. Everyone was so happy and the energy was amazing. It was just a different vibe in the expo. Although the entire staff was busting their butt to get things together for the race they were taking time to talk to everyone and thoroughly help people with questions. Amazed.</div>

<br />
At this point in the day I am exhausted. We have been running around out in the sun and didn't get lunch until 2:00 PM. Aaron and John wanted to drive the Half Ironman course as its technical and super hilly. Holy hills! I was relieved to being doing the Olympic and if you want to challenge yourself on a course this is where to do it. I can't imagine how Aaron and John did this on a tandem. With a pit stop for more coffee for Aaron and John and a quick jaunt to the local Wally World we were off to my Aunt and Uncle's for some R&R!<br />
<br />
My Aunt and Uncle live about 10 minutes from the race site and are on the other side of the freeway from the strip of resorts and waterparks. This was ideal as they live back in the woods and we were surrounded by quiet nature. My Uncle is an amazing cook! We had delicious pulled pork sandwiches with cinnamon in it and fried zucchini and squash. I will be back to this race whether its to work, spectate, or just watch.<br />
<br />
It was quickly time to get tattooed up and ready for an early morning. Before I fully made it into slumber I had some time to reflect on how genuinely fortunate I am to be a Rev 3 Team Member. I am not a cheesy flowers and rainbows kind of person. I am a no BS, critique every small thing, and expect the best in everything. I have worked in customer service since the age of 14 in many industries including event management so let just leave it as my expectations are high. The passion that drives this company is the root of its success. They cross every "T" and dot every ""I and will bend over backwards to make you happy. They give, give, give and truly want what is best for the sport. Happy finishers! Doing a Rev3 race should be on your bucket list, along with getting a WI State Fair Cream Puff so go sign up for next year!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On my first commute of the season to work I got stung by something. I know it took me awhile to get my stuff together since my first ride was in July, but I was ready to rock. I was really enjoying myself and then BAM! I thought I got hit by a rock at first, but I heard it buzzing and quickly brushed it away. I stopped to see if I was bleeding because I thought I might of broken something it hit me that hard. I started to feel tightness and was thinking I was going to have black eyes for the wedding I was going to that weekend. By the time I got to work I knew I was going to be a little swollen. I could see in the glass doors that indeed I was and I quickly dashed into the basement so no one would see me. In the mirror I looked like a human dinosaur mix. At that point I was thinking I would get a ride to a minute clinic or bike myself. I didn't want to go all sweaty so I hopped in the shower. FAIL. I found out later warm water is not good when you are going into anaphylactic shock. Within seconds of the lukewarm water hitting me and sweat settling in I quickly broke out into hives head to toe and started panicking I was itching so bad. My face also doubled in size. The next 60 seconds went like this: Out of shower, dress on, sandals on, hair tied back, upstairs to my coworker, my coworkers look of horror, grabbing her purse and getting in the car. Luckily since I work on UM's campus the emergency room is really close. By the time we were turning into the parking lot it felt like my chest was being stepped on and breathing got really difficult. All turned out fine and I have an upcoming appointment with an allergist to narrow it down. Although I am happy I am okay I am annoyed that I have to carrying an Epi Pen. What a hassle! If this ever happens again I am making sure to get a picture because I was not even recognizable. Below is a picture of me about 10 hours after. Most of the swelling dropped into my cheeks and chin. I am lopsided! </div>
